theory question: any meaning in VPIP to PFR ratio?
I've heard posters allude to the ratio between VPIP and PFR as being something meaningful, and I'm struggling to find out what additional information the ratio provides that the numbers don't already independently signify.
For example, what really is the difference in preflop raising style between a 30/15 player and a 15/15 player. Obviously, the first player raises only half the hands he plays whereas the second always raises. But they're still really just playing the same percentage and likely the same kind of range, right? What am I missing? |

Re: theory question: any meaning in VPIP to PFR ratio?
nah a 30/15 is way more likely to be rasing random crap just because he feels like rasing at that particular moment. they arent neccesssarily rasiing the top 15% of their hands and calling with the next 15% or whatever. they dont think that way.
a 20/15 on the other hand is going to be mcuh more positionally aware, and will genrally have very different ranges from various positions, ie. much tighter UTG than on Btn. not sure if that what you were looking for |

Re: theory question: any meaning in VPIP to PFR ratio?
going on from what cs3 said, a 30/15 will probably be much less likely to 3bet light from the blinds than a 15/15. PAHUD stats shouldn't just be considered merely in and of themselves but rather to categorise opponents into types. you can often guess quite a lot about an opponent's postflop play from the relation between their VPIP/PFR%.

Re: theory question: any meaning in VPIP to PFR ratio?
obviously the PFR% will tell you there raising range, whilst the ratio will help you determine the range they call raises with.
an 18/17 will be calling raises with a narrow range, probably PP's and the odd SC, whilst a 26/17 will be calling with a bunch of stuff like suited broadways, suited aces, connectors, and things likes ATo as well. i don't think the ratio on it's own will really help you determine how light the opponent 3bets though, you need other info for that |
