Re: Torre is back
Steinbrenner and management should have just not offered him a new contract if they didn't want him back. The one year contract with a pay cut and incentives was insulting. There was no need to insult him.

He received a generous offer and the type of offer he deserved given the results he has achieved with the players he has been given over the past several years. He had the right to reject it. No one should be insulted and no one was wrong or wronged. It was time for Torre and this team to go in different directions. |

Re: Torre is back
LOL at those of you critical of Torre's results, recent or otherwise. It's a high variance sport and the first round is 3-5 games long. F the 162 games right, it's the playoffs that count?

The guy has been there 12 years, and giving him a one year contract at a pay cut with incentives was offensive, and no one could accept that. |

[/ QUOTE ] His previous boss (forget who it was) was very high on him, and thought Farrell could hold just about any position for any club and do a great job. I dunno if he'd be a great manager or not, but I'd rather he stay the Sox pitching coach. |

[/ QUOTE ] BP had mentioned in an article that the NYY next manager needs to be able to manage the NYY young talent, due to the large amount that they have. If this is true, which given the arms they have, it is, then Farrell would be a good choice. Even if strategy wise Farrell is meh, Cashman and him can work that out. I am sure Farrell has learned quite a bit from Francona anyways, and my guess is, that Cashman would be looking for a manager more like Francona than Torre anyhow. I don't want him leaving BOS, but he could be a good choice for NYY. craig |
