Thought process during a hand (basic flowchart):
I originally posted this in the beginner's forum awhile ago:
I made this flowchart while teaching my girlfriend to play to help illustrate some of the things that she should be thinking about in a hand. Every time she had an action, I made her decide (any street) whether her hand was likely currently best or not based on the information she had available, and then use that answer to proceed through the flow chart. I allowed no "maybe" answers. With all the recent posts on basic concepts like bet sizing and flop texture, I thought it might help to put this out there: Hope this helps. |

Cool. Thanks. Can someone clarify fold equity please? A link, explanation, or book reference would work fine.

Re: Thought process during a hand (basic flowchart):
At what point does the bet size turn into "shove?"
When the bet size that is otherwise called for (PSB, 3/4, 2/3, etc) would leave you with X% of the pot? When the bet is X% of your stack? |

[/ QUOTE ] That's a good question. I originally made this to teach her deepstack micro cash games and it wasn't as big an issue there. I'd have to say that the bet/raise turns into a shove whenever the action would otherwise commit you to the pot. Say that the pot on the flop is 840 and you're first to act. You decide to bet on a 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] K [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] flop. If effective stacks are 6000, bet around 700. If effective stacks are 1075, a push is probably in order. Hopefully this makes sense. |

Re: Thought process during a hand (basic flowchart):
I dream of the day where I have a gf who will sit with me while I show her a chart on poker hands and explain to her what fold equity means while we eat eggs and settle easily into a Sunday of online poker. Man...

I'm thinking in a tourney, you don't want to leave yourself with too low an M. So maybe push if the bet/raise would put your M low enough where you'd have to push soon anyway. Then again, you can't win if you don't survive. I guess it's kind of a judgement call at that point. |
