When the cops got there, I was standing next to the passenger side door holding my hands in the air. LOL.

[ QUOTE ]
Teddy sniffing glue, he was 12 years old
Fell from the roof on East Two-nine
Cathy was 11 when she pulled the plug
On 26 reds and a bottle of wine
Bobby got leukemia, 14 years old
He looked like 65 when he died
He was a friend of mine

Those are people who died, died
They were all my friends, and they died

G-berg and Georgie let their gimmicks go rotten
So they died of hepatitis in upper Manhattan
Sly in Vietnam took a bullet in the head
Bobby OD'd on Drano on the night that he was wed
They were two more friends of mine
Two more friends that died

Those are people who died, died
They were all my friends, and they died

Mary took a dry dive from a hotel room
Bobby hung himself from a cell in the tombs
Judy jumped in front of a subway train
Eddie got slit in the jugular vein
And Eddie, I miss you more than all the others
And I salute you brother

Those are people who died, died
They were all my friends, and they died

Herbie pushed Tony from the Boys' Club roof
Tony thought that his rage was just some goof
But Herbie sure gave Tony some bitchen proof
"Hey," Herbie said, "Tony, can you fly?"
But Tony couldn't fly, Tony died

Those are people who died, died
They were all my friends, and they died

Brian got busted on a narco rap
He beat the rap by rattin' on some bikers
He said, "Hey, I know it's dangerous, but it sure beats Riker's"
But the next day he got offed by the very same bikers

Those are people who died, died
They were all my friends, and they died

OP, you seem to refer to a lot of them as "one of the heaviest drinkers of the group"

Plz rank them from most alcoholic to least and give approx number of months in a row they would be drunk for.

thx.

Level?

Sounds like a fun little game.

Alex - EZ #1. When Alex didn't have a beer in his hand he was shaking because it it.

Warren - #2 - Actually lived with me a short time in the early 90's in the same house I live in now. He would down a 6 pack before work, then get on a 40' ladder and paint.

Larry / John M / Ron - TIE #3 - Always drinking. These guys "needed" it.

Kenny / Bill - TIE #4 - Always drinking with the crowd, but I think they just did because everyone else did.

Steve - #5 - Steve did not hang with this crowd, but I knew him and he was always drunk. He like the hard stuff.

John C / Mitch / Kevin - #6 Drinkers, but more into drugs.

Jim V, James - #7 pure drugs for these guys. Jim drank before he started herion and then quit for drugs. James was never a drinker.

You state the one guy was a painter and would have a six pack before work. Was he self employed, did he have a cool bos, or was he just really good at hiding it? Did he drink at work? Did the other guys have jobs?

Sorry for a lot of questions, but I've always been really curious how most people end up maintaining a drinking habit that is a morning-night occasion for long periods of time. After like day 3 I don't see how I would possibly have enough energy to wake up and get to a job on time.

Warren, Bill and I all worked sporadically for a greek guy named Sandy. Sandy was a big fat azz who underpaid his workers thus didn't care what we did as long as his jobs got painted. Warren would sit at Sandy kitchen table in the morning with a beer as we would go over the days schedule. Sandy would just shake his head and laugh about it. There would be occasions when Sandy would tell Warren straight out not to booze it prior to a job, but only a couple.

An example of how cheap Sandy was. In 1990, he got a contract to paint the fence around the Navy base in Annapolis, MD. Yes, we has to paint the chain link fence that surrounded the entire Navy base.

Well first, Sandy decided to try to save on labor by spraying the fence. Perfectly legit. On the first day of spraying, 3 cars got misted with silver oil-based paint and had to be re-painted. Sandy was ordered no more spraying. So we had to roll and brush the chain link fence.

Next, bidding the job, the Navy people estimated how many gallons of paint it would take to actually cover the 7 miles of fence (both sides). What ever the number was...they gave him a check for that paint...then contracted his labor. Sandy proceeds to buy thinner and suddenly 5 gallons of paint became 10 cutting Sandys paint cost in half. And making for a very messy job on our side.

Finally, it was in the contract that all of Sandys laborers belong to some Painters union and make a certain $ amount per hour. I believe it was $15...and he actually paid us $8/hr under the table.

When Sandy hired us for the job, he made us agree if we were ever audited, and we were, we would agree to tell them we made $17/hr.

And...I would probably rank myself with Kenny & Bill.

Drinking on the job is standard for painters. I'm serious.
