Re: Discuss: A Las Vegas Sports Shopping Trip
[ QUOTE ]
The sportsbook manager initially approved my wager, but after seeing all my wagers and discussing it with his boss on the phone, he cut my wager on the 1H WAS/PHI total down to half the initial amount. I was not happy about that, but I did not think it would do me any good to argue since I did not have the ticket in hand before they made the change. [/ QUOTE ] What triggers this kind of review? The amount bet? The type of bets? |

Re: Discuss: A Las Vegas Sports Shopping Trip
I'm not 100% sure, but I think there were two reasons:
1. he didn't like taking the bet, and probably thought they hung a bad line when he heard it. but initially he didn't do anything about it. 2. after he heard the other bets, he knew I bet fairly large...and that probably gave him the impetus to cramp down on the 1H WAS/PHI Under wager since there was a higher chance I was sharper than normal. Just a guess, can't be 100% sure since I didn't even hear what the guy on the phone said. (just reread your question...if you meant "what triggers the phone call" ... then the answer is: the amount wagered. |

[ QUOTE ]
It is not important to count the winners and losers in the bets I made...The gist of this article is the thought process and preparation involved in making the bets. [/ QUOTE ] Yes, yes. I know that's the purpose and it very interesting, even to a sports betting novice. But c'mon...we still want to know how it came out. Fess up! |

Re: Discuss: A Las Vegas Sports Shopping Trip
Lots of winners. I didn't want to make it look like I wrote the article because there were so many winners. I had planned to write this article as I was in Vegas and jotted down a few notes as I went along. But for the curious, here are the results - but remember, in the grand scheme of things, the results don't matter.
Casino: South Point Wager: 1H DEN -6 -110 vs. OAK Win Casino: Palms Wagers: NFC South CAR EVEN Not looking good NFC CAR +800 Not looking good Casino: Gold Coast Wagers: 1H WAS/PHI Under 20 -110 Win TEN +300 money line IND Lose CLE +260 money line CIN Win HOU +260 money line CAR Win (remember these are against other bets which lost) Casino: Planet Hollywood Wagers: SD +4.5 -110 vs. NE Lose MIA +5 -110 vs. DAL Lose TEN +7.5 -110 vs. IND Win HOU +7 -110 vs. CAR Win Casino: Venetian Wagers: 1H NYG P vs. GB Win AFC N CIN +160 Negative EV now, but not horrible Casino: Las Vegas Hilton Wagers: TB +3.5 EVEN vs. NO Win MIA +3.5 EVEN vs. DAL Lose 1H BAL -6 -110 vs. NYJ Win Casino: Stratosphere Wagers: 1H NYG P -110 vs. GB Win OAK +10 -105 vs. DEN Win NYJ +10 -105 vs. BAL Win Casino: Plaza Wagers: OAK +10 -105 vs. DEN Win TEN +7 EVEN vs. IND Win BUF +10 -105 vs. PIT Lose CLE +7 -110 vs. CIN Win Casino: Golden Nugget Wagers: 1H NYG P vs. GB Win NFC CAR 10-1 Not looking good |

Hot damn!
[ QUOTE ] remember, in the grand scheme of things, the results don't matter. [/ QUOTE ] As a poker player, I know this true. I believe it. But still, it's a heck of a lot more fun when the results roll your way. |
