Re: Memoirs
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] "A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier" by Ishmael Beah is a fantastic book. The author writes of his experiences as a child in Sierra Leone during the civil war of the 1990's. He was ultimately forced to fight alongside and against other teenage boys. NY Times Review & Book Excerpts [/ QUOTE ] Saw this guy on CBC's The Hour plugging the book. Looked really really powerful, he was eloquent and clear. I think I'll pick this one up. [/ QUOTE ] i heard an interview w/ him on Fresh Air i believe... i'm def. interested in the book due to the interview |

Re: Memoirs
i really really like the feynman books, they're interesting, inspirational, hilarious and at times very sad. i know that's not saying anything that hasn't been said before, but still.

[/ QUOTE ] the Feynman books are great also zanny are some of the Erdos biographies... but those are biographies and not memoirs... "A Prime Man" is a good one, i think A memoir that really impressed me is called, "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly." It's written by a 43 year old who suffered a massive stroke and became permanently paralyzed, in a way known as the "locked-in syndrome." He dictated his memoir by blinking only his left eye. The book was published 2 days before his death. |
