Re: Buy New Comp, Enough power ?
you will get a better bang for the buck by upgrading the processor to a Core2 Duo over the RAM upgrade.

Re: Buy New Comp, Enough power ?
That E6700 is pretty damn good. You could probably get an E6400 and be pretty happy with it too.
Do you realize that you will actually only be able to use about 3.2GB of the 4GB of RAM unless you are running a 64-bit OS? 2-3GB will be plenty of RAM. |

Re: Buy New Comp, Enough power ?
u do, it has been explained everywhere, google it.
I am not the only one that has posted it either. A 32-bit OS can only address 4GB, but the system uses memomory addresses for things other than RAM. I have seen results from 3.2GB to 3.5GB of usable RAM. It will still function, you just can't access it all. Which really isn't a problem because 4GB is overkill for most people. http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/archives/000811.html |

Re: Buy New Comp, Enough power ?
64 bit OS or system virtualization.
The mac pro is dual quad core processors. Each processor can be viruatlized as it's own system and each can address 4GB. I doubt that the full 8GB is usable. |
