88 UTG flopping overpair on drawy board.
I'm fairly certain I've made the right laydown here due to reverse implied odds and the lack of real reads this early in the MTT.
PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t30 (9 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums) Button (t3270) SB (t2970) BB (t2970) Hero (t3040) UTG+1 (t2650) MP1 (t2770) MP2 (t2550) MP3 (t3910) CO (t2870) Preflop: Hero is UTG with 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. I toss it for the same reasons as you did.

Re: 88 UTG flopping overpair on drawy board.
It's so little I think I call and re-evaluate based on what people do on the turn. You're getting like 5:1. I don't even really care about the gutshot, I think you might have the best hand here. Just be prepared to fold bad turns.

Crapload of reverse implied odds here and pretty horrible position, relative and absolute. |

Re: 88 UTG flopping overpair on drawy board.
An undercard, the board pairing, the gutshot coming in. Even a 9 isn't horrible because you have two of the 8s for the straight.
I just hate passing up what is likely gonna be 6:1 or better. That's almost enough for the gutshot by itself. |

Re: 88 UTG flopping overpair on drawy board.
i concede i never do any reverse implied odds calculations in my play (i thought that these only complicate my game unnecessery - but this might be a leak of course).
in your hand i also think you have the best hand right now. as it was a limping round you can be up against nearly everything. from the flop betting most likely are draws and maybe someone paired the board. i would raise to 500. if i take it down right now - great. if i find a caller i will most likely get a freecard on the turn. if i get reraised im off. i try to keep my decisions simple best hand=bet |

Re: 88 UTG flopping overpair on drawy board.
Its like Iraq. There are no good options left in this hand..just bad options and worse options because you got involved in the hand incorrectly. Had you raised pre you would likely eliminated the feild enuff to not be so woried that any card that improves ur hand at this point may also beat you. I see no need to compound the mistake..fold it and make a note to raise that pair next time.

Umm no, tournaments aren't cash games, you want to limp this to get the max number of limpers behind to play it for set value.
