What is Value of 1st Round Buy in HU Tourney?
I'm not a math wiz, so I don't know if this the answer to this question is simple or complicated. My buddy wants to host a 24-player, single-elimination HU tourney. This would require 6 first-round byes. Is there a formula to easily figure the value of skipping the first round, so that we can make the first-round byes pay extra for skipping their bye?

[/ QUOTE ] Entering and getting a bye is worth twice as much as a normal entry. Your equity if you enter in the round of 32 is 1/32 of the prize pool. Your equity if you enter in the round of 16 because of a bye is 1/16 of the prize pool. This doesn't mean people want to pay that much. You could auction the byes off. A player with a slight advantage should usually be willing to pay more for a bye than a weak player, although a weak player's chance to win more than doubles by getting a bye while the strong player's chance to win less than doubles. |
