video cards for a 30\"
So I need a video card with dual dvi capable of 2560x16000 resolution to run my 30" display. I'm not using the computer for anything but basic computing and poker.
My question: There seems to be a tremendous variation in the price of dual dvi video cards. Is there any reason not to get one of the cheaper ones for around $130 (XFX GeForce 8600 GT)? Lucky |

Re: video cards for a 30\"
you need dual-LINK DVI, not just dual-DVI.
*edit* Also, read the monitor FAQ sticky at the top of the forum. |

Re: video cards for a 30\"
If you aren't going to be playing graphics intensive games you'll want to spend more money. Generally, the more expensive the more polygons it can push around faster. Short of looking for reviews of the individual cards I'd get like the 2nd or 3rd cheapest one that supported dual link.

Brand is usually something you are paying money for too. Some of the companies (BFG, for one) offer lifetime warranty. I've had great experience with BFG, Chaintec & XFX and I usually stick with one of those 3. |

Re: video cards for a 30\"
Thanks for the input. Sounds like I don't need to spend a lot as I never play video games or other graphics intensive applications. Lucky |

Re: video cards for a 30\"
Cheapo 8xxx seris >>> 7xxx series cards.
if no video games, can't gfo wrong with an 8500 card. Beware not all 7xxx cards support dual-LINK DVI, although almost all have dual DVI. I'm sure you know the Dual-LINK is the important thing, but it can hardly hurt to reinforce the information dave. |
