But why not just start making their own water with vitamins (brand it Dasani Vitamin or whatever) and putting it in their vending machines? It can't really be that hard to figure out how to put vitamins in water and I'm skeptical that the Vitamin Water brand name is worth $4B.

Coke passed on Quaker Oats thinking this same thing.

Gatorade has 83% market share. Powerade has 16%.

It's pretty interesting for the fact that it (probably) makes him the richest man in hip-hop (the list is from August '06):

1. P. Diddy -- $346 Million
2. Jay-Z -- $340 Million
3. Russell Simmons -- $325 Million
4. Damon Dash -- $200 Million
5. Neptunes -- $155 Million
6 Dr. Dre -- $150 Million
7. Ice Cube -- $145 Million
8. Eminem -- $110 Million
9. 50 Cent -- $100 Million
10. Nelly -- $60 Million
10. (Tie) Jermaine Dupri -- $60 Million

wow in the less than a year these numbers have been completely thrown off and are so wrong now...Jay-Z has said in recent songs he is worth about $537mil and puff is worth about $550mil (idk how he gained so much money in the last year but apparently he did) ...besides the fact 50 cent will be paying about 43% of his 400mil in taxes but it will almost triple his net worth reportedly post taxes, which is kinda sick...

[/ QUOTE ]

I think more like 15-20%, since I believe it's capital gains.

Also, I love Vitamin Water, and their new energy drink line (with the same flavors as the water line) is my new favorite for energy drinks.

I much prefer vitamin water to Gatorade. It is not as sweet and the Acai Blueberry and Dragonfruit are really good.

The purchase price is pretty nuts though. That is nearly a 14x multiple of revenue. Consumer products companies normally do not sell for more than 5x, and maybe 10x EBITDA (profit).

Second place, 4th paragraph down.
As a fan of rap I don't care for the dudes music but you got to respect the guy's hustle. If you remember a couple years back he bought Tyson's mansion for $4million, he's pimped that [censored] out and has like a $11 million price tag on it. He owes to everybody that bought his commercialized sell out albums to create the greatest cribs episode ever with his new house.

Just wish that now since he's worth $440 million he'd make some real music instead of the commercialized bull [censored] he's put out in his first two major albums.

I can't find a link, but word is Vitamin water and 50 cent are both denying he got 10% and isn't saying how much he made.

You would think Coke knows what theyre doing, but how the hell can they pay $4B for a company that did only $300mil in sales? What am I missing?

[/ QUOTE ]
The $$ value of controlling a market. Coke are going around and buying up everyone in the beverage industry. Have been for a long time.

Vitamin water is nowhere near good enough to be $2/bottle.

The ability to sell Vitamin Water in Coke vending machines, of which there are about 80 trillion.

Dasani does have flavored water. It sucks.
