$2.89

State College, PA

However, the last time I filled up was over a week ago. So it could easily be above $3 now.

So I need to completely change my lifestyle, the lifestyle the government encouraged for the past 70 years, because they cannot refine enough gas to meet summer demand?

Also, for the record, my commute is only 7 miles. I own a Pathfinder and a YARIS.

Also, if everyone left their house less often (like instead of going shopping), the economy would collapse.

[/ QUOTE ]

Statements like this make people think you took off your tinfoil hat, said "what the hell", took the biggest glass of Kool-Aid you could find, and drank it all down.

The government had next to nothing to do with the lifestyle you're currently living. They didn't select the state you're living in, nor the job you decided to take up as a profession. There is not big bad government conspiracy against BT and his way of life, being perpetrated by the artificial inflation of gas prices. Big brother is not watching you and laughing each time you have to fork over $80+ to fill up the tank of the behemoth Pathfinder you elected to drive.

Your commute is 7 miles? Too far. I commute 1. If I hit the traffic light in the winter, I have effectively doubled my commute time. During the spring, summer and fall, I walk to work most days, weather permitting.

Your last statement is ludicrous. Saying that people not going out as often will collapse the economy shows that you're being purposefully obtuse, or that you don't want to bother thinking about changing your lifestyle even one iota.

How about trying to run all of your errands at one time? Going shopping for the day? Plan out a route map that will take you to each store and then back home. Do all of your shopping on one day, instead of going out each day to a different store to shop. Stop at the most convenient places on your commute home from work and shop then. The economy still gets its bucks, saving it from general collapse and By-Tor can save some $$ on gas.

if they wanted, they could put a WWII effort into alternative fuel research and production, but they do not.

[/ QUOTE ]

They don't because it's more expensive than gas. Equilibrium ftw.

[ QUOTE ]
In addition, they allow the refineries to operate with smoke and mirrors

[/ QUOTE ]

Why should the govt do anything? Because you say the price is too high? There's a lot of [censored] that people think is too expensive. So we BUY LESS OF IT. "But I have no choice - I can't buy less gas." Yes you can, it's just hard and you don't want to.

And gas prices would plummet. Mission accomplished.

Let me guess, you are the person behind the "Don't buy gas on May 15th, the gas/oil companies will be at our mercy" email?
