I was going to say the river bet REALLY looks like a blocking bet. BTW never fold this getting 5 to 1 I think that this is almost never a straight.

[ QUOTE ]
A thread came up with similar circumstance yesterday I believe.

Popular conclusion was that there were just as many draws on the board to protect from on the turn as there are on the flop, so why stop protecting?

[/ QUOTE ]

Because you have to balance between hand protection and stack protection. Hero really has a small hand here: TPTK on a three-straight, two-flush, paired board. It's by no means certain that hero even possesses the best hand on the turn. By betting the turn we put ourselves in the position of talking ourselves into a call on a four-straight river.

Why not just bet just enough on the turn to offer an 8 outer the wrong price... something like 1/2 pot, and then do more pot control on the river by checking behind or calling a small bet?

I'm pretty sure calling is more profitable than shoving because he probably has a busted flush draw/top pair somewhat weaker kicker. Pushing only really folds out JT and QQ+ and its doubtfull he would check/call an overpair like this on the turn.

I also suspect he'll call with the top straight and any fullhouse, but he may toss the bottom straight if its even in his hand range.

or are you considering folding?

I grunched both posts, and didn't realize above got posted before I wrote this one :/

nh. I like b/f the turn. The river is never a bluff, but could be a blocker so I call, but dont expect to be good much.

[/ QUOTE ]

so why wouldn't you raise? I can't help thinking if villian is good enough he'll fold everything because he has a fullhouse here almost never and he can't really call with less than the FH because you could easily have it or be pushing a Q forcing him to call for the split (if he did hit his straight).

problem is I'm probably giving villian too much credit.

edit: lol I'm confused too, if he bet 2/3 I might at least consider folding.

You kinda have to call. I like the play on the rest of the streets. Checking the turn is exploitable cause he can take you off your hand on the river.

I like the way you played the hand. Checking for pot control on 4th street is good when the board is really dry or really scary. The flush didn't get there, the full house did though, that's why I like bet/folding. I think he could have something like QJ/KJ/QT or something like that. I think you need to bet that turn. Given the pot odds i like the river call. Do you think he would ever do this with a busted flush draw?
