Default Disgusting Chop--Need Feedback

My bankroll is zip.

Tonight I bought into a $60 freezeout (live) with 80 players and narrowed it down to 3.

1st = 1530, 2nd = 890, 3rd = 720.

I had a sick CL at the final table 100,000 out of 240,000 total, but lost a few hands against short stacks, stole a few hands against short stacks, and was at 100,000 with 3 people left.

One gets in with 44 and I call 66 preflop, flop a set, he turns a 4, and rivers a 4. I just hand to include that b/c it was so sick.

Anyway--the chop I took was 1,080 for all three of us, even though I had approx 1.7x their chipstack(s).

I felt way out of my comfort zone playing for a significant amount of money, and took an easy out. In addition, I had a lot of respect for one of the players (zero for the other).

How disgusting is this chop?

Assuming a 17-10-10 chip distribution your theoretical EV was about $1150, so it "cost" you $70, so not a big deal.

But don't forget to think about what you're already guaranteed in these spots. You're not "locking up" $1080 with the deal, you already have $720 and you're "locking up" another $360. Looking at it like this might help you in the future to make a decision that you feel better about afterwards.

It is not too bad tbh. Nice little return on your $60 investment. Feel good about it.

Btw, the maths is wrong. I assume the 890 2nd place should actually be 990? That would leave total prizepool of 3240 / 3 = 1080?

Bear in mind that everyone has won $720. You are now fighting over a $1080 prizepool that is going to be split 810 / 270 / 0 if you play on. The chop you agreed turned that into a 360 / 360 / 360 split.

If you pushed it to a 500 / 290 / 290 split you would have got a very good edge on the deal and probably could have convinced them to agree:

1220 / 1010 / 1010.

But as you will probably realise, the difference is not that significant and if the money means a lot to you; sacrificing some edge in equity is compensated for by removing the spectre of variance and the possibillity of a 3rd place finish for $720 (which would really suck).

Hope the above helps. Good luck.

I think you made a wise choice if you are admitting to yourself that the thougth of losing that extra few hundred $'s may affect your play, this is fine.

one thing you may consider when doing such a deal in the future is cutting yourself an even split for X amount and leaving a little bit in for a first place finish, so you still get a pay day if you win the thing.
