Default Are $50 bills unlucky ?

I heard it from Daniel Negraneau that there is a superstition that $50 dollar bills are unlucky and that they should not be used for buying chips. Has anyone else heard of this ?

I have no idea if this is true, but the story that I've heard is that casinos long ago chose not to use them because they were relatively hard to distinguish from $5 bills when going through stacks of money quickly. So whenever chips were bought with $50's, most casinos would take them out of circulation, and people would be paid in hundreds. This led to a scarcity of $50 bills in the gambling economy, which in turn developed into a superstition for gamblers. Then the funny part is that now, even with automatic counters and such, most casinos still don't use them, largely because of their customer's superstition that they probably caused in the first place.

One casino that is near me only uses $50's, rarely hundreds. [censored] pisses me off.

Thanks for the clarification .At least now I can stop praying for $100s' instead of $50s' when the $$ shoots out at the instant bank teller.

I've heard of a different reason why 50's have gotten this stigma. In the 1980's fifties were the easiest bill to counterfeit and they were showing up all over the place among gamblers. So since so many were getting paid debts with counterfeit fifties they became unlucky.
