Re: Great/terrible movies
A ton of the movies listed so far are either terrible but not great (Battlefield Earth) or great w/o being terrible (Commando, Road House). OOT is dumb.

The Burbs.
Tom Hanks absolutely mails it in and that actually ADDS to the awesomeness of his performance. |

bump
just watched The Monster Squad for the first time in years. the movie is awesome for the following (spoilers): none of the actors' careers have gone anywhere. if you look them up on imdb, like the last thing one guy did was an ep of Mr. Belvedere in '89. Sean gets a message from his mom. "Mr. Alucard called - interested in the journal you found." Sean takes out a notepad and starts writing down the name. His hands begin to tremble as he unscrambles the letters and he writes "Dracula." So basically Dracula called up this kid, couldn't think of a clever fake name, so just left his name backwards and no way to contact him. the squad goes to a mysterious old man's house to elicit his help. he invites them in. the next shot is the old man holding a knife saying, "boys, your time is almost up!" then the camera zooms out to show the boys enjoying delicious pie. the old man cuts a slice and says, "it's your last chance for pie!" who the [censored] talks like that when offering their guests pie? the squad has successfully retrieved the amulet from Dracula's lair, but the old vampire is in hot pursuit! the squad heads to their rallying point at the church where they will perform the ceremony to defeat evil. Dracula breaks off pursuit to go chuck a block of dynamite into their clubhouse. then he goes to battle them at the church. he didn't blow up their clubhouse for any reason, just to be a dick or something. |
