Default NL200 | Preflop

It's a preflop question, you know you love it.

Riddle me this. BB is whovever you want it to be.

Full Tilt Poker
$1/$2 No Limit Hold'em Ring Game
5 Players
LegoPoker Hand Converter

Stack Sizes
Hero (SB): $198.1
UTG: $203.35
MP: $344.40
CO: $259.60
BTN: $79.90

Preflop: T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] ($3, 5 players)
MP folds, CO folds, BTN folds, Hero raises to $8 ... ?

Why did I raise this? If I get called I'm playing a raise pot out of position with a marginal one pair hand.

Well, if BB is folding (either to the initial raise or to my c-bet), I'm raising almost ATC, and AT = ATC, ergo raise.

If villain is a loose-passive fish, I'm so ahead of his calling range I don't really mind being OOP.

I agree that if BB is prone to 3-betting PF or is tricky/floaty postflop, folding is totally okay.

Because as far as we know Villian has a totally random hand, in which case we are a favorite, and we want his $2?

I would think a lot of this depends on our image too.

Ok, let's say he's not a loose passive fish, and AT is not ahead of his calling range. It's either a flip or a dog.

Let's also say he's not folding pockets to a CB unless there's an Ace on board.

IOW, somewhat tight, somewhat passive, somewhat cynical.
