Re: NCAA Bowl Thread
Wow, K State has not played a game since Nov 18 against Kansas. When they said it on the broadcast I didn't believe it for some reason. That is a ridiculously long lay off. At least Rutgers played in the month of December.
Edit: As a coach how do handle that layoff? It's longer than a spring football season, which is 3 weeks. You don't even know if you are guarenteed to be in a bowl, but you have to assume it I guess. It just seems like alot of time and you don't even know when your season is going to end? |

Re: NCAA Bowl Thread
I know there are most likely very few people still watching this RU game but I think this crew announcing is much better than any other crew I have heard this year. Maybe the Jaws/Vermeil crew in week 1 of NFL was better but I really like this TV crew.

Re: NCAA Bowl Thread
not able to watch this one right now.
Do you know the names of the announcers? Regarding how to handle the long layoff and preparing for the bowl-game. I don't know too much about it but this is what I think usually happens. They have finals and stuff like that to tend to so it's not going to be all practices anyway. But usually the coaches have a pretty decent idea of which bowl or bowls they might be going to. The invites go out pretty early sometimes for the teams that are available. Navy had already accepted their bowl invite before they played their game against Army although that one is a more direct tie-in with them. The ones that are still up in the air there is still communication between the athletic directors and the bowl-representatives. Texas Bowl tells KSU, "We know the Liberty Bowl might want you, but if they don't take you then you are our first selection. We would be thrilled to have you play in our bowl." blah blah blah. The conference tie-in's for "4th place/invite from Big 12 goes here (if at least 6 wins)" help with this too of course. They often-times even know this stuff heading into their last regular season game. I seem to recall a couple years ago that Northwestern pretty much KNEW they would be going to the Motor City bowl if/when they could get that 6th win. |

Re: NCAA Bowl Thread
Bowl Records as follow(per conference)through 12/28:
Big East - 2-0 Pac-10 - 1-2 Big 12 - 1-2 SEC - 0-1 ACC - 0-0 Mountain West- 3-1 Sun Belt - 1-1 WAC - 2-0 Mid-American - 1-1 C-USA - 0-3 Big 12 started 1-0 today, ended up with 2 blowout losses. Big East moves to 2-0 with Rutgers beating KSU, USF won earlier in the bowl season. SEC had Alabama lose today. PAC-10 finally wins its first bowl game of the season, Cal gets it. |
