Let me take some of the pressure off. You really don't need to read all those. Try this for a reading list:
Winning Low-Limit Hold'em - Lee Jones Be sure to get the 3rd edition. A lot of the people here don't much like this book. That's because the first two edditions had some real problems. The 3rd edition is a good introduction to Limit Hold'em. Small Stakes Hold 'em: Winning Big with Expert Play - Edward Miller This is one of the best books on Limit Hold'em avaliable, particularly for when you are playing at the lower limits with a lot of players who don't fully understand the fundamentals. Read this book over and over. Weighing the Odds in Hold'em Poker - King Yao This book is every bit as good as Small Stakes Hold'em, but where SSH excels at teaching you to extract money from overly loose & passive players, Weighing the Odds will help you when you are playing opponents who actually have a clue. If you just read Small Stakes Hold'em and Weighing the Odds over and over, you'd be well on your way to being a winning player. Hold'em on the Come I enjoyed this book. It's an excelent referance for counting and, more importantly, discounting your outs when you are on a draw. The Theory of Poker - David Sklansky This book goes into depth on theoretical concepts that apply to all poker games. A through understanding of these concepts is nessasary if you expect to be a winning player. Real Poker II: The Play of Hands - Roy Cook An excelent collection of essays by a full time middle limit pro. At this point, we leave the realm of "beginner" books and enter the world of the pros and semi-pros. Hold'em Poker: For Advanced Players This book takes the concepts presented in Theory of Poker and applies them specificly to Limit Hold'em. Additionally there is a lot of advanced material that is specific to Limit Hold'em. This book assumes your opponents are thinking, skilled Hold'em players who are capable of 2nd & 3rd level thinking, and are able to make a big laydown when appropriate. Many of those "plays" just won't work at the lower limits with tables full of fish. Middle Limit Holdem Poker - Bob Ciaffone Another book specificly for playing the middle limits with other advanced players able to make a big laydown. How Good Is Your Limit Hold'em? - Byron Jacobs An excelent book of hand quizzes for reinforcing advanced Limit Hold'em skills. That narrows your list down from 21 to 9, and your first year you really only need the first 6 books. Get those six books, a copy of Poker Tracker and deposit around $250.00 on a site like Party Poker or Poker Stars. Then read a little, play a little, read a little, play a little, read the Limit forums here, post some hands you have questions about, play some more, read some more. And try to have fun. Poker is a game, after all. |

I think your list is pretty good, but I'll echo Phydaux in that you don't need ALL of them in one fell swoop. I think Phydaux's recommendations for paring the list down a bit are rock-solid as well; can't go wrong with them.
I would add two conditional recommendations: Once you've read a few of these books and have some playing time, IF you have a problem with the emotional aspects of the game (i.e., you tend to go on tilt), then Inside the Poker Mind by Feeney is, in my mind, indispensable. Beyond learning the basics, this has been one of the most influential books in my own development. IF you are truly serious about embarking on a playing "career" with long-term success, I would recommend Mark Blade's Professional Poker, even if you have no intention whatsoever about going pro. Reason; the best discussion of BANKROLL MANAGEMENT I've seen in any poker book. Others may disagree. Just my $0.02 |
