When to look at the cards? (LC)
When I am playing a live tournament (or cash game for that matter) I almost always wait until its my turn to look at the my hole.
Thoughts on the subject are welcome. |

Re: When to look at the cards? (LC)
This thread should be moved to B&M.
You should be looking at the other players when they look at their cards. You should especially be glancing to your left to see if anyone has already seen their cards and is photographing their intentions. |

Re: When to look at the cards? (LC)
I like to look only when it's my turn. Allows me to watch and digest all the action so my veiw of the action in front of me is not skewed by my cards. When I peek, I know my range already.
It also allows me to keep a consistent action when it is up to me.....peek - pause - think - play. Everytime. |

Re: When to look at the cards? (LC)
I thought about this before. When I'm at the table, and see someone looking at their cards as soon as they are dealt to them, this is usually a quite accurate read that this person is a fish, or has mostly been playing online.
Obviously the optimal thing to do, is to wait until it's your turn to act, so that the people in front of you can't pick up any tells about the strenght of your hand, simply because you don't even know yourself yet. However, when it's your turn to act, people will be watching you, so maybe they will be paying more attention to your face, and pick up your expression while you are looking at your cards. This is an argument for looking at your cards as soon as you get them. I still prefer waiting until it's my turn though. |

Re: When to look at the cards? (LC)
yay! i'm the only one who said directly. if i look down and see aces if someone raises me i can make some comment to him like "you have every [censored] hand" then look at my hand like i havent seen them yet and announce i am all-in.

Re: When to look at the cards? (LC)
I always waited until it was my turn to look at my hands, but it's always been more of a superstition thing than looking for tells.
Then again, I have very limited live experience so you can discredit that. |

Re: When to look at the cards? (LC)
I like to wait until the action is on the person to my right, that was people aren't looking at me when I first see my cards but I still get to see nearly everyone act before I look.
