Cannot delete/remove \'download helper\'
On my desktop, there is a 'download helper' icon for a certain program that I haven't installed on my laptop.
However, when i go to delete it, it says 'Cannot delete xxxxxx: Access is denied...Make sure the disc is not full or write protected and the file is currently not in use." I should also say there is no folder related to it in the program files folder. Thanks. |

Re: Cannot delete/remove \'download helper\'
Something is using the file/shortcut.
- Make sure there isn't something to uninstall in add/remove programs. - You can try booting into safe mode and deleting it. - If it is indeed a file, google killbox -- it's a utility that helps delete files that really don't want to be deleted. |

Re: Cannot delete/remove \'download helper\'
(Or for the advanced)..
Find out what's using it. - Goto www.sysinternals.com - Download process explorer - Run it - From the menu, pick find -- then type in the name of the file/shortcut. It will tell you what process has a lock on that file. You can then decide how to proceed. Kill the process that's using it, or stop the service thats using it. |

Re: Cannot delete/remove \'download helper\'
I'm guessing that the executable itself, rather than a shortcut, is stored on your desktop, and it is being launched at startup. Try booting into safe mode and deleting it, or use msconfig or sysinternals autoruns to take it out of your startup. Either of these should allow you to delete it.
