on a sidenote...what happens to accents when people start singing?? (bands like inxs, u2, def leppard, jet) Anybody else notice how the accent doesnt really come through in the songs (as opposed to interviews and such)

[/ QUOTE ]

I've noticed this too. I thought all bands were American till I was like 16.

I'm currently watching Band of Brothers (for the 100th time), and I think that Winters, Liebgott, and Martin all have pretty thick British accents. They did a pretty good job with their American accents in the series. Just thought I'd chime in with that.

We Americans don't pronounce our "T"s at all. We pronounce them closer to d's.

[/ QUOTE ]

Time has a hard T. Bottle doesn't.

There are several British actors who play roles that require an American Accent, Colin Ferrel and the guy who plays on House come to mind.

[/ QUOTE ]

Just fwiw, Colin Farrell actually plays up his Irish accent when he's being interviewed on TV(and playing himself on scrubs), presumably to appeal to the american stereotype of Irish people usually depicted on TV. His actual accent is nowhere near that thick.

Also, Irish people are not British.

it would seem that it it actually very hard for a brit to do a decent American accent.

[/ QUOTE ]

I would say its much easier for an englishman to do an american accent than it is to do some regional accents from england itself.

Doing a realy broad bristolian or border counties for example is very difficult. Bristolians pronounce Bristol as Brizzle, when I first tmoved there it took me about 6 months before I could understand what the natives were talking about. I now live in Cornwall, maderdo-e.

Also it would seem that Brits can do Yank much better than Yanks can do Brit.

We Americans do pronounce our T's. It is New Yorkers who choose to pronounce their T's as D's. New Yorker's also don't pronounce their R's unless they add them to the end of a word with a vowel that doesn't have an R.
