Even though I had Portugal, I really wanted Holland to win last night. What a bunch of tossers the portuguese are. Van Bommel can go [censored] himself as well.

I can't believe they didn't convert one [censored] time.

Kuyt seriously might be the biggest lineup blunder in WC history. That guy was horrrrrendous.

Nice career Ruud.

I was so pleased with my predictions for the second round that I after posting here, I put on an accumulator on those predictions.

90th minute pen donated to Italy and, poof, my dreams have evaporated.

Why the bad feeling for Portugal? They were the better side on the night and didn't start the spite.

Incidentally, there are legs in this Dutch team and I recommend an early punt on them for the Euros. This was a tournament too early for them agaisnt a very professional, single-minded, experienced and well-coached Portugal. They reminded me of the young Czech, French and Croatian teams that flattered to deceive at Euro 96 but matured into great sides.

I don't like divers, which is why Van Bommel is a cvnt as well.

I specially loved how the keeper was down "injuried" for 5 minutes late in the game, and while this was happening Portugal made their last substitution. Obviously Scolari wasn't too worried about his keeper actually being injuried...

I know conning, diving, cheating, stalling, etc are all part of the game these days, but I don't have to like it. And even though no one is completly innocent and the dutch certainly was not innocent that game, Portugal just consistently take it to another level.

I really hope England stuff them next game, fat chance of that though the way England has played. It's hard to believe a team with Gerrard, Lampard, Rooney, Terry, Cole (Ashley), and dare I say Beckham....can play such utter [censored] football. Their midfield does not work at all even though it looks nice on paper. Still, Rule Brittania, God Save The Queen, and all that.

England have improved the cheating aspect of their game. Robinson went down for like five minutes in the dying stages against Equador with a 'twinge' like the best of them.

Christ knows what's wrong with England but it was ever thus. We play horribly against inferior teams and win and then splendidly against superior teams and lose. I think the only decent team we've ever beaten in knockout competition is Spain in 96. Then again, we've only beaten one four teams in knockout competition since 1966: Spain (at home), Cameroon, Denmark and Poland.

I am getting increasingly less confident. However, as a Liverpool fan, I'm used to Stevie G wrenching us through games through sheer grit.

Any Germany fans out there? I'm looking to make a friendly side bet for $20 on Argentina advancing. Just to make the game more interesting to watch, I guess. Let me know.

Last two days with no football has been depressing. Really looking forward to the first of the quarterfinals, should be a real cracker.

This two days off have been invaluable to me.

First night off: quality time with neglected wife, couple of episodes of the Sopranos from Amazon.

Second night off: first MTT outright win since New Year's Day.

And what a World Cup!!!

And what a line up!!!

Hosts v Favourites.

England v the team that's put them out of two of the last three and the manager that's put them out of two of the last three.

The 1998 final replayed with Fat Ron and Old Zizou.

And another match, involving Italians.

I'm wetting myself with glee.
