Why doesn\'t Justin Verlander have more k\'s?
his k numbers were awesome in the minors last year - maybe they don't translate well since it was single-A ball......still, he has only a 5.24 k/9 right now which seems incredibly low for a guy who throws 100mph and has offspeed stuff in the 70's.....

Give him a little while to adjust, they'll pick up a little.

Re: Why doesn\'t Justin Verlander have more k\'s?
I havent had a chance to watch him but i would guess that its his secondary pitches that need work. With a good fastball and OK secondary stuff you can K a lot of minor league hitters but you really need good control of them to K major league hitters. The more he works on his offspeed stuff the better it will become.

I haven't seen this guy pitch yet. Is he a lefty or righty? What is his repertoire composed of?

I have heard he pitched through some blister problems that kept him from throwing his curveball.

Re: Why doesn\'t Justin Verlander have more k\'s?
Verlander throws upper 90's, has a pretty filthy change that is his #2 pitch and a big curve that he throws rarely. Against the twins a few weeks ago he went 7 or 8 shutout innings without striking out anyone. That is pretty insane, especially since he hit 100 in the 6th or 7th.
