Just an impolite, arrogant guy. Maybe he's mellowed. This would be about twenty years ago.

I think Lederer provides the best commentary. Gabe's kind of funny though...Howard's definitely not funny.

I honestly believe Phil Hellmuth is the best commentator that I've heard or seen.

More proof that an entertainer makes a better poker commentator than a poker player.

Yeah, Hellmuth is good too (when he stays away from telling his own bad beat stories).

sheikhan pots flop and turn, todd calls with flushdraw.
kaplan: "shawn shouldve bet much more, todd has no choice but to call for this price"; kinda along these lines

[/ QUOTE ]

I remember that hand. Shawn bet like 2/3 of the pot twice, which was pricing Todd out of the draw. Very strange that Gabe would say that. Perhaps it was an editing error. I noticed that the amounts the players bet/pot size shown on the screen was not always correct.

I remember that as the only mistake that Gabe made in all 13 shows. Do you remember any other mistakes?

IMO, Gabe is excellent.

He would never say "So-and-so has a ...PAIR OF 5's!?" in an Omaha telecast after a large bet, when so-and-so holds 456J on a 57Q flop.

Plus, I think he's funny. And he has had some pretty high tournament finishes.

I'd love to have a top-notch pro do commentary, but for the most part, I think they'd have a tough time communicating their thoughts to the masses. A lot of people that can DO, cannot TEACH. But if they ever find a top-notch pro who can elaborate on his or her ideas clearly enough for the masses to understand, then by all means yes. But in the meantime I vote "TV background with moderate poker knowledge"

Best full time poker commentator on tv. Which isnt saying too much. MS/VVP and the WSOP guys just dumb it down too much to be interesting.
