Facing huge river check raise with top pair........
Playing $7.50/15 deep stack on FTP. My image is a passive nit, been been check calling and check folding alot. I've shown down 3 hands thus far and each time I've had the goods. Villain in hand is Stuart Patterson, played with him before and he doesn't seem that great, kinda irratic. What is my river line here? And what do you think of my turn line?

Re: Facing huge river check raise with top pair........
Villain sees you as a tight passive player and puts you probably on AK-AT.
Villain floats the flop thinking he will buy the pot on turn/river. Turn is A -> bad card for villain. Pot is about 280$ so he knows he probably can't push you off the hand by leading. You check behind (for pot control?) and Villain knows you don't have AK. On river pot is still only about 280$ and he knows he still can't push you off the hand by leading. You make a valuebet here correctly and villain pulls the old check-raise-bluff move knowing you are capable of laying the hand down. Check-raising was his only possible move to win the pot with air. My guess is you folded and he showed you QJ or something like that. |

Why should I fold quick. What is he trying to rep that beats me?

[/ QUOTE ] With the action up to the river, he will expect you to bet just about anything with any kind of showdown value (as well as some bluffs). This makes checkraising his good hands much better than leading with them. He might be bluffing, but he's never checkraising worse for value. |
