Default Watchband, metal or leather?

If you are buying a watch, what type of band are you looking for?

It depends on the watch.

It also depends on the use (every day, to work, special occasions, etc.).

Unless you live in an artic climate, metal is the way to go. That is, unless you like your wrist smelling like funk.

This is why I am done with leather bands. Too damn expensive to keep replacing.

I prefer metal bands over any other type band. If you get a decent watch you'll never have trouble with a metal band and you can get it buffed to look like new.

The only alternative to metal bands I like would be a rubber band. I used to have a watch or two with leather bands but I don't like them after a couple months wear.

I think I'd rather watch a metal band, but I can be suede.

I just inherited a 45 year old rolex. It wasn't keeping time so I took it get serviced ($600! I almost gave it back). The watchmaker freaked out that it had a metal band. Turns out the whole damn case is made of gold. Years ago someone (Dad?) replaced the band with an aftermarket, when it rubbed it was wearing away at the gold case.

I bought a brown leather band, it actually looks much better, esp. with the gold all shiny now.
