Hidden LA Restaurants \"best buys\"
Inspired by another post on the front page...
Here are some of mine: Samnaluang Café (Thai Town) – best Thai, kinda ghetto / open late, has morning glory Golden Deli (San Gabriel Valley) – decent pho, ridiculously amazing cha gio, vg rice plates Shik Do Rak (K-Town) – reasonably priced. Overall very good Bistro K (South Pas) – best new French bistro in LA IMO, very reasonable Senor Fish (Eagle Rock) – favorite Mexian in LA, scallop burritos Chicken Zankou -Al |

Re: Hidden LA Restaurants \"best buys\"
I really liked Loteria! at the farmer's market in LA. also I stayed at the standard downtown and there were tons of great taquerias around what appeared to be the diamond district. I had huitlacoche quesadillas which is usually hard to find (for us east coasters anyways).

California Chicken Cafe - cheap, healthy. good salads(i don't usually like salads)
El Taurino/King Taco - my favorite burrito places in LA. Porto's - cheap eats for lunch, but in Glendale and bakery is sometimes very hectic. Sushi Mac - not the greatest sushi, but maybe the greatest value. All rolls/2 pc sushi is $2.50 each. DN |

Pink's. The awesomeness my vary depending on how much you have had to drink, but it is pretty cheap.
Edited to add- Also went to a decent Vietnamese joint in Orange County- I was staying in Garden Grove, but it was the next town to the N (I think)- right by City Hall (Anaheim, maybe?). Very affordable, and the food was awesome. |

Re: Hidden LA Restaurants \"best buys\"
Wow, Deez, we eat at all the same places. Only one I disagree with is:
[ QUOTE ] California Chicken Cafe - cheap, healthy. good salads(i don't usually like salads) [/ QUOTE ] The chicken here is really bland compared to other rotisserie places. If you haven't had some Zankou Chicken, you really need to go. It blows that place away. And I have to second Porto's. Everyone needs to have a Medianoche sandwich. |

Do pinks and zankou count as "hidden" since they're, you know, famous? if so, then let's throw in n out in there.

Deez - Porto's is great. They just opened one in Burbank where I work, so even more awesome.
I can walk to Yuca's, the chili verde burrito is awesome (much gratitude to LF Slim for recommending it). There are tons of vg, cheap Chinese places in San Gabriel Valley - one of my favorites is Dai Ho which has the best niu ryo mien (beef noodle soup, spicy) I've ever had. Anyone like Sushi Noshi? Good deal I think. -Al |
