Default Summer in Washington D.C.

Going against Bisonbison's advice, I decided to accept an internship in Washington DC this summer. I would like to turn to OOT to get advice about Washington in the summer, since I have never really spent any time there.

Where do the young people hang out? I'd like to find some cheap housing that is relative safe and near a subway. Anyone know anything?

If it matters, I'm working for Citizens for Tax Justice, a group that advocates for fairer taxes.

I know nothing about the DC scene or housing, but craigslist is your friend.

Do they want (my) taxes to be lower or higher?

If you are rich they want your taxes to be higher.

If you are middle class or poor, they want them to be lower.

If you're a big corporation (many of whom pay no income tax at all), then you're screwed.

Contact George Washington Univ. for cheap housing near a metro stop. You'll probably either hand out near Capitol Hill, in Georgetown, in Adams Morgan, or Dupont Circle.

What would consider cheap housing? Cheap is a very relative term when it comes to housing.

Fair point. I know I am dreaming, but I'd love to find something between $500 - $750.

If this is your goal you'll need multiple roommates. Check craigslist, talk to local universities, etc. If you can afford it you should also plan a trip out to take a look at various places and neighborhoods... areas can go from nice to pretty sketch in like a block.

You're not going to find anything even close to $500 near a subway unless you are willing to share a bedroom. Even $750 is pushing it.

Arlington, VA is nice (thats where I currently live) but it is kind of a far commute to capitol hill. Adams Morgan is probably your best bet.
