Photography: Help me buy a camera
I travel a lot, especially for the next 7 months or so and seem to find myself in places where I wish I had a nice camera to take quality pictures. I know nothing about photography, camera's or prices. Here's what I do know:
- I want to take super awesome pictures. - Assume price doesn't matter, but I do want to get a great camera for a good price. Here's what you need to help me with: - Tell me what camera's I need to look at. - Tell me why, explain to me what makes an awesome camera. - Give price ranges of your listed camera's. - If you have links that would be nice. - Any other information that you think I should know b/c I am a just a nerb that wants awesome pictures. Thank you ~td |

[/ QUOTE ] Sounds like you want a point n' shoot. SLR's have a learning curve that, unless you wish to 'get into' photography long-term, is too steep. Look into a Canon Powershot S3 IS or a Canon Powershot A700 , the S3 being on the high-end and the A700 being easier to use and more compact. GL |

Re: Photography: Help me buy a camera
JO,
How long will it take (realize that my only experience with cameras is with my simple digital) to fully learn and handle the S3? The A700? |

JO, How long will it take (realize that my only experience with cameras is with my simple digital) to fully learn and handle the S3? The A700? [/ QUOTE ] 5 minutes. They are both just real high-quality glorified point n' shoot cameras. The S3 has awesome glass quality (an 'L' lens, same glass quality as the 'big white lens' on the sidelines you see are football games), image-stabalization and a 12x *optical* zoom (never use digital zoom) which is the approximate equivilent of a 400mm lens (400mm is about what a baseball photog will use from the pit to get the batter in the box (to give an example)... With each of these units, you will typically use a full-auto mode to shoot with. |

Are you leaning to digital or film? [/ QUOTE ] Which is better? Which takes better shots, if one does at all? Which is more difficult/easier to handle/develop etc.? |
