I'm Irish-German, born in the midwest, which means I'm about as emotionally warm as a block of ice. When my dad got lung cancer (smoked 2 packs of Camels a day, like almost his entire generational peer group) I flew to Dallas from Chicago as much as I could, took him to chemo, spent a lot of time with him. Last trip down, we both knew it was going to be the last time I saw him, and we just more or less hung out at his house, watching TV. Never told him I loved him, knew he knew I did, but couldn't say it.
Anyway..... |

Once or twice
Conversely, how many times-if ever-has your dad told you he loves you? Once for me when I was like 10 |

Once or twice [/ QUOTE ] Seems about right, back when I was in the Marines and got shot at on occasion. Probably been 15 years or so now. No reason too really. You know. He knows. |

Just about everyday. It's how we end our phone conversations and I wouldn't want it any other way.

Just about everyday. It's how we end our phone conversations and I tried to stop the cycle but he kept doing it and it made me sad so like the weak-willed bitch I am, I returned to saying it. [/ QUOTE ] |

my Dad passed away 10 years ago...
my advice to those with Dad's? Say it if you're not. Say it more often if you do. |
