Playing the Orleans 1-2 NL game today...bought in for the max of $300...worked it up to $850.
There was this kid there who was pretty passive unless he had a big pocket pair - then he'd over-bet the pot pre-flop. Once, he pushed on a flop of rags and showed AA. Well...I pick up KK in MP...raise it to $15 after a few limpers, and he immediately pushes all $400 he has in front of him. I can't believe how easy this laydown was. I have never even contemplated laying down KK pre-flop, EVER. Never thought I would have have the stones or the obvious read to do so. But tonight, I did it. I flipped them up and tossed 'em...even the dealer's eyes went all buggy. The kid sheepishly grinned and showed AA. Everyone at the table started avoding me in pots from then on! I'm quite proud of myself. |

Congrats. I have never personally been able to make this laydown. But I also play limit, so I think it would be a crime. But nh!

Congrats to OP. It's great that he showed the rockets! You have to love being the guru for the night. People will point you out to their mates from time to time now and say they saw you fold kk preflop correctly.
Probably -EV, but none-the-less. [ QUOTE ] Congrats. I have never personally been able to make this laydown. But I also play limit, so I think it would be a crime. But nh! [/ QUOTE ] Johnny Chan makes this fold in limit games all the time. It's standard. |

Even if your opponent flipped over AA, you would probably have the right implied odds to hit your set. |

no, its standard [/ QUOTE ] We're talking limit here right? There's NO way that folding KK to a single bet pre-flop is a standard play, in fact 99% of time you should probably cap. Ask any poster in any of the limit forums, they would laugh off any suggestion to fold KK for a single bet pre-flop in limit. |

Nice Job Dom. Everyone talks about odds blah blah blah but there are times where what makes sense on paper doesn't make sense in real life. I've made some big laydowns that just seemed so normal because of the opponent.
Here's the real question, would you have folded this online? |

[/ QUOTE ] he was gettnig 424:385. he was getting 1.101:1. he has to win that pot about 47% of the time to call. if he's 95% sure that his opponenet has AA, its a very clear fold, odds wise. not "feel" wise. in the best case scenario of KK vs. AA (they all have different suits), its 4.34:1 against KK winning, it drops to 4.5 or so for an avereage of about 4.4 or something : 1 KK wins vs. AA. so less than 20% of the time. given what dom witnessed (and the opponent showed his hand as he did live) its another easy fold PF online Barron |

Yeah but I don't think you can really get a "feel" for your opponent the way he did online. I don't know, I don't play no limit.
