Probably buying a PS3, need input on disk size
Title pretty much says it. I'm thinking of going with the 40GB to save money, plus I can get a really good deal from dell right now (399.99 for the console + 2 controllers + spiderman3 bluray + hdmi cable)... How much space do I really need if my main priority is just saving my games? Major drawbacks to the 40GB vs 80GB?

Re: Probably buying a PS3, need input on disk size
If your just saving games, that's way, way more then enough. I have a 360 and for saving games in Madden, etc. the amount of space is pretty trivial. The only things that will take up space are demos and if you want to copy games, movies, or mp3s.

Re: Probably buying a PS3, need input on disk size
capone0 has it right. If you're just using it for game saves you'll have more than enough w/ 40 GB. However, if you want backwards compatibility, 2 more usb ports, plan on downloading a lot of demos, putting MP3's on your PS3, or plan on putting Linux on it the 80 GB one is the way to go.
It sounds like that isn't important to you so I would go w/ the cheaper version. As for games I would recommend Resistance or COD4 (fun multiplayer), Oblivion (RPG), Ninja Gaiden (hard action), and to check out my thread about games released in the next couple of weeks . |

Re: Probably buying a PS3, need input on disk size
I'm sure this has been asked/answered like a billion times but it would probably influence which system I buy but is it possible to install an even bigger hd in either the 360 or the PS3?

Re: Probably buying a PS3, need input on disk size
PS3 uses a regular laptop HD so you can upgrade pretty cheaply to whatever size you want. 360 has a proprietary 120GB HD for $180 I believe.

(preface I don't have a PS3 nor do I plan on getting one)
I'd say go with the one that has the backwards compatibility (not the $400 one). PS2 has a great library of games that you can get for pretty cheap and that will hold you over till some of the better games come out. |
