Playing 99 postflop vs BB preflop 3bet
Stacks
Me $25 BB $35 BB is 20/18/5, tight aggressive but has 3bet me a couple times preflop so far and I folded. I'm looking for a spot to make a stand. Does this seem reasonable, or should I just let it go on the flop once I miss my set? Or consider reraising there instead? I open 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] on button to $.85, BB reraises to $2.90, I call. (Plan at this point is to try to hit a set, or perhaps continue on a low board) I estimate his range as ATs+, AJo+, KQo, KQs, 66+. Flop($5.90) T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] BB bets $4.25, I decide to call. (Thinking he may have missed this flop, decide to see how he acts on the turn) Turn($14.40) 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] BB checks, I bet $8. Results: Final pot: $22.40 |

I bet a little more tough. But I like this line.

Re: Playing 99 postflop vs BB preflop 3bet
I don't really like the strength of hand you chose to take this line with. It seems like you should have nothing, or the nuts here, not something inbetween.
You have showdown value with your 99, which is why I generally like to try and take it to showdown. By betting this turn here, you accomplish one thing, you turn your hand into a bluff. You might as well have any two cards if you're going to take this line, and sometimes you should really have QQ+ here to mix things up. Unless he's the type of player who you know will fire the river if you check it back on the turn, but those types are pretty rare from what i've noticed. |

Re: Playing 99 postflop vs BB preflop 3bet
So you suggest checking the turn through and hoping he checks river too, else fold to a bet?
I thought about this at the time but there seem to a be a lot of cards I don't want to see here, namely any heart or J+ card. |

based on stack sizes, I like a turn check and river call.

Re: Playing 99 postflop vs BB preflop 3bet
I guess that's the situation I'm not sure how to handle. If I check the turn I know I can call a small bet on a blank river, but what if:
- the river is a heart or J+ card? - he bets 2/3 pot or greater on river? |

Re: Playing 99 postflop vs BB preflop 3bet
I worry about putting much more in on this turn. The $8 turn bet leaves me with about ~$10 remaining. If I bet more, let's say $10, and he is planning a checkraise I'm almost forced to call then getting 42 to 8 odds.
