Default How many on here are Deists??

I am surprised it is not a more popular religious philosphy on the grounds of it's beliefs.... Here are the basics of it from wikipedia.

"Critical elements of Deist thought included:

Rejection of all religions based on books that claim to contain the revealed word of God.

Rejection of reports of miracles, prophecies and religious "mysteries".

Rejection of the Genesis account of creation and the doctrine of original sin, along with all similar beliefs.

Rejection of Judaism, Christianity, Islam and other religious beliefs.

Constructive elements of Deist thought included:

God exists and created the universe.

God wants human beings to behave morally.

Human beings have souls that survive death; that is, there is an afterlife.

In the afterlife, God will reward moral behavior and punish immoral behavior." (wikipedia)

Sure the first part is alright but then again what are they basing that last part on?

Well, what I know, one issue I have with Christianity is that moral works don't get you into heaven. Only accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior will get you to heaven. Now I'm also not saying the after life is the bible's version of heaven, it could be absolutely anything.

I also think that Deist's believe that God created the universe, and is taking a backseat to where humanity is going, or where the dinosaurs went, and whatever else has possibly existed. Maybe he affects certain lives now though, who knows as well.

Meh fwiw I much prefer the Protestant doctrine of salvation by faith alone than the Catholic one of faith and works.

edit: I'll explain a bit further. The doctrine of salvation by faith alone does not give believers a free pass to do whatever the [censored] they want. Anyone who says that it does is grossly skewing Protestant thought. The point is that people will do good works out of love for God and one's fellow man instead of for a reward or out of some forced obligation.

What do you mean? I prefer the Protestant interpretation over the Catholic one. Has nothing to do with which one (if either) is correct.

PS Have you started my reading list or will you continue to ignore it and just pretend like you already know everything that is in the books?

I thought the only reason for being a deist was to join the freemasons. (j/k)

I'm not a deist.

I don't see how any constructive element is different from other religions from a believability standpoint.

Just because it's not as sickeningly evil as other religions doesn't make it any more probable.

that would be my main motivation for becoming a deist, very serious. Being a mason could be very lucrative.
