Default Middle Set - Standard?

$5/5 at local place
Me - $550 - Just sat down 2 rounds ago
Villain $covers - Very LAGgy, any two will do type of player, has no concept of position

I get 8 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]8 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] UTG and limp, UTG+2 bumps to $20, 3 callers, including villain in the SB.

Flop $85: 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]4 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]
Villain checks, I lead for $60, everybody else folds, Villain calls.

Turn: $205: Q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]
Villain checks again, I bet $150, villain calls.

River $505: A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
Villain shoves. I ($320) call.

Standard. Getting it in seems fine. I can't imagine how you're beat here, he can't possibly have T9 more then a handful of times you're in this spot.

Oh and BTW, please God don't raise preflop, in live 5/5 this is simply idiotic. Are we trying to get blown off our hand preflop by someone's overpair we want to stack? Any particular reason we should make it $25 and then stick it in the muck when it gets three bet to $100?

Looks fine to me. I can't see a LAG not reraising preflop if he had QQ-AA. So, for hands that he might play preflop without a reraise that end up pushing the river, he might have 44, J8, QJ, AQ, JJ, and 9T or even a crazy hand like KT. If he has 9T/KT/JJ, then I guess you pay him off since he'll have 2-pair or a lower set often enough to make a call profitable.

You flopped a set. You played it fast. And you are ahead of the range with which villain might push on the river, so call.

was this hand played at oceans by any chance?

i think raising and not raising with 88 is = ev because people play so bad live that it does not mater how much the pot is pre, they will still get all the money in with one pair.
