I win \"No\" on Torre getting fired, right?!?
' October 18, 2007 -- TAMPA - Joe Torre fired The Boss.
In a shocking result, Torre today turned down the Yankees $5 million, 1-year offer to return as the Yankees' manager for his 13th season. Torre was offered $5 million base package and another $1 million for each the division series, league series and the World Series. "Joe torre turned that offer down today. We respect his decision. We respect everything he has done but it is now time to move forward," Yankees' President Randy Levine said.' Prop was Torre is fired by NYY [not retired or contract expire] by Dec 31, 2007. I am now the clear winner, correct? |

Umm... His contract will expire. [/ QUOTE ] I would say you should win because they didn't fire him like most thought they would...however, if the bet included his contract running out (which it's going to) then I dont see how you could win unless they re-new his contract. IMO |

Have fun arguing this out with the site Naj.
I'm guessing it's slightly better than 50/50 that they will pay you as they should. |

Umm... His contract will expire. [/ QUOTE ] Yes. The prop was worded that Torre must be fired. Retire = win contract up = win The Yanks offered him a new deal. Thus offer <> fired. |

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah, I try not to think. I was just pointing out the outcome that'll probably happen, lest he retire. After looking yeah, you should win. |

I think there is no doubt you should win.
However, I wonder if this was all an elaborate setup for everyone to save face. |

What do you guys think about Mattingly to be the next manager at 2/3 at bodog? Value? Girardi at 7/2 is the only other one I like here.
Joe Girardi 7/2 Don Mattingly 2/3 Tony LaRussa 5/2 Bobby Valentine 5/1 Lou Piniella 15/1 Field (Any Other Manager) 27/20 |

Joe Girardi 7/2 Don Mattingly 2/3 Tony LaRussa 5/2 Bobby Valentine 5/1 Lou Piniella 15/1 Field (Any Other Manager) 27/20 [/ QUOTE ] I just maxed Girardi (only $100). I think he's at least as likely as Mattingly. It's hard for me to imagine either Piniella or Valentne being a serious candidate, and there's a lot of uncertainty around La Russa's situation. Girardi vs. Mattingly, Girardi seems like the more qualified candidate (manager of the year as opposed to no managerial experience at any level) and Girardi probably could have managed again in 07 if he didn't want to hold out for the Yankees' job- I'm speculating here, but I think Girardi thinks he will be the guy, and I'm not sure that Donnie's public waffling this week helps him. Thanks for posting. |
