Default PS3 @ computer monitor

hey, I have linked my PS3 directly (not over a digital receiver) to my dell 30'' monitor via a hdmi-dvi-wire and its not working.
the ps3 works with my tv and the monitor works with my computer.
I also tried resetting the ps3 (by pressing on/off for 10secs) and its still not working.
the monitor just stays black. although it must receive some sort of signal, because when the monitor is "just" on, the sign is red and when I turn on the ps3 it turns blue.
has anybody succesfully done this before/knows help?
thx...

I hook mine to a 32" LCD via HDMI and it works fine... seems like it's the wire. Have you hooked it up to another tv w/ this wire?

its not a tv, its a monitor - if that matters.
I just got a new cable and now I get a question on my tv, when I connect both (tv and monitor) that a hdmi-connection was found and whether I want to switch -> if I selsect yes, the tv turn black, but the monitor stays black. darrrrrn, this sux so bad.

My TV has a computer hook-up, so I would assume mine is like any other monitor w/ HDMI hookup. Is the monitor widescreen?

Can you hook up the PS3 to the monitor any other way besides HDMI?

Do you have any other HDMI outputs that you know work so you can test the HDMI wire?

The HDMI input on the monitor or the HDMI output on the PS3 (though I doubt this) may be broken too, do you have anything else that has an HDMI input to plug the PS3 into?

You may need to tweak the settings on the PS3, though if you're running on a reg tv in 480i it shouldn't be a problem for the monitor, but you may want to screw w/ the settings anyway just to be sure.

You need to troubleshoot this to figure out if it's the HDMI wire, the HDMI input on the monitor, or the settings/HDMI output on the PS3.

That's too bad. I would have been pissed if my PS3 didn't work w/ my LCD.
