A Barak Obama/ Ron Paul 3rd party ticket that I feel, although on its face seems unreal, actually makes a lot of sense and could win.

[ QUOTE ] A a liberal, big-government welfare statist / libertarian, minimum government welfare opponent 3rd party ticket that doesn't make one bit of sense [/ QUOTE ] [/ QUOTE ] It makes sense because, first, they are both at odds with their parties directions and want change, back to what they feel is what their party is truly about. Second, their foreign policy in regards to the middle east is very similiar, although for different reasons (anti-war liberal/ old school ("Eisenhower") conservative isolationist). Most importantly, though, is that this ticket could change American politics for the better in the future, because it could win. How much better would it be if the two parties had libertarian / true leftist ideologies as opposed to the current religious neo-conservative / pandering centrist ideologies? No more BS wars, no more power to religious zealots, reinstatement of our civil rights and liberties (i.e. no more warrantless wiretaps, "Patriot" act is gone) and a return to a positive international image. And all of these things would get passed/ happen easily. The major debates in this country would then be centered on economics, and isn't that good? |

[/ QUOTE ] I have to take issue with some of this w/ regard to Obama. While he opposes the war, he has not given any indication that he would actually end it. He also is a champion of civil rights and liberties only in certain areas. Ask him if he'll protect our liberty to the extent that we can keep all of our income and/or capital gains... |

I am reading The Fellowship of the Ring for one of my classes. In the prologue Tolkien explains the hobbit society. I would like something like that.
