Ok so I have recently acquired a 5.3k gift certificate for alienware.com. My friend sold it to me for a ridiculous price that I couldn't pass up so I decided to take it off him and get myself a new laptop.
Ok, I'm going to get the Area-51 m9750 and I'm going to be playing poker as well as some games like Warcraft III. The customization page is here. Please let me know your thoughts on what I should get as I'm not exactly computer savvy, but I'm willing to spend top dollar for things like fast startup speed, and no freezing up or anything. For example, should I get a solid-state drive? Just let me know what you think, and if you have the time to go ahead and do an entire customization, with a 5.3k budget in mind, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks guys! |

Well with 5.3k you can basically max out the processor, ram, vid card and everything else and still come under the 5.3k.
The solid state drives seem like a waste to me. If you are that worried about losing data you could buy an external hdd to backup info, or burn it on to a dvd. |

I've read that it speeds up everything as well, as well as maxing out battery life as well as keeping the computer cool. Pretty attractive to me. But should I just max out the processor, ram, dual vid. cards, and go for a different hard drive?

why not just resell the gift certificate for profit?

A buddy of mine won an alienware laptop at a gaming convention he got it 8 months later with a broken water cooling system. They didn't even fix it for him!!

PC World magazine had some kickass Alienware laptop for 4,700. That and a good monitor would do the trick.
Personally, I would spend about 2k on a lap top, 2k on a desktop and the rest on monitors. |
