Few hands from the International Poker Open, Ireland. Deep in tourname
Tournament is a live 125+25 freezeout. 1073 stareted yesterday making it the largest poker tournament ever played in Europe.
Anyways 97 came back today. The bubble broke yesterday so everyone in the money. 93 left when this hand occured. Blinds are 5k 10k. This is the 2nd orbit of the day and villain is an unknown in the BB. I stole his BB the previous orbit. I have 345k. Folded to me and I make it 35k with A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. Villain thinks for ages and pushes for 100k. I?? Hand 2. 36 player remain from the 1073 that started. Blinds are 8k 15k. Villain is in the small blind. The previous hand I made a standard raise with 10 10 and took down the sb and villains BB. He remarked after that hand that I wouldn't ger away with doing that again. Villain is also a bit peed with me as he doubled me up earlier when I induced a bluff from him on the turn. My stack is 390k. Villain covers. I raise to 48k in MP1 with A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. Folded to villain who thinks for a while and says 150k. I?? Also bear in mind that I regard myself as one of the best players left and don't really want to get involved in coinflips. Thoughts appreciated. |

Re: Few hands from the International Poker Open, Ireland. Deep in tourname
1) thinks for ages & you stole his blind & his M is ony 6.7 (assuming no antes - if antes it's even less and your is less) = proly not premium a/k/a AK AA KK, plus your AQ = not likely AA or QQ. KK the strongest possibility among premiums. I'd say a medium pair. 88-JJ or a smaller ace like AT AJ, maybe KQ. I would therefore think that you are ahead of his range and should call. Also, you would still be in good shape if you lost the hand. (I take it you're in the SB, if not, then I would also push to isolate).
2) if you think the guy is on semi-tilt, thinking you're stealing with impunity I would push. or a call and go could work but it's risky b/c then you're giving him a chance to hit. |

Re: Few hands from the International Poker Open, Ireland. Deep in tour
Hi Lissavalley,
As expected - you got the same answers here that you did on Boards. Congrats on the good run and hard luck in the end. I think you have to get the chips over the line in both of these situations. And, as was emphasised to you on boards, the structure - both in terms of the blind to average stack ratio and the top heavy payout - dictated that plus cEV was very much plus $EV all day long. Yes, the remaining field was VERY weak. But so what, I had no intention of passing up equity edges. If we had made the final table the approach would have had to have been adjusted given the severe steepness of the payjumps 10 - 1. But all of that is just standard tournament theory anyway. |

How are either of these hands close? Get it all in and FAST in both spots please.
Cheers! John |
