.50 stars NL, flopped straight... how to get to value town?
i only play one or two tables at a time, so i try to concern myself with making the best reads and extracting the most value. that said, i'm still working on the value part.
i don't have a read on the villain here - over 25 hands running 40/4, only thing i've seen him show down is a c/called flush draw that hit, potted the river with. PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.50 BB (6 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums) CO ($20.20) Hero ($74.55) SB ($47.35) Villain ($68.90) UTG ($52.30) MP ($9.75) Preflop: Hero is Button with 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. 3 folds, Hero raises to $1.75, 1 fold, Villain calls $1.25. Flop: ($3.75) 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players) BB checks, Hero bets $2, Villian raises to $4, Hero? should i be raising here? he didn't play his first draw like this, so should i get it in and hope he calls with a minraised overpair/set? what about calling and value betting through unpaired turn/rivers? obv, not my standard play from the button, but switching it up also tends to help. |

villain usually shuts down when the min raise gets called
your best line is to pump it to 12-13 and pot the next two streets when called |

Raise it up. Definitely looks like he likes his hand, and if your reads are correct you're going to get his whole stack. Try to get it all-in on the flop. If he just calls your raise, then pot turn/river.

Yeah make it like $12, lead turn and river about 3/4 pot [/ QUOTE ] Exactly how I would play it. His minraise usually means "i have a hand i like but i won't call a shove". He might not fold a pp to your flop raise, and he still might put you on overcards on the turn because he might think you think he has a fd and you just want him to fold. |

Re: .50 stars NL, flopped straight... how to get to value town?
3bet to $12. He is not folding an overpair on the flop is he chose to play it like this. Hopefully he has QQ. Also, you have the nuts, so ideally you would like to get his entire stack and for that to happen you need to 3bet here. If you just call there is no way to get it in unless you overbet shove 3xpot on the river. And there is of course any number of scarecards that can come off to scare villain, like a 4 or a 5, a heart or an overcard to his overpair. If the board pairs villains 2pair could get counterfeited. There are so many things that could go wrong so get the money in while villain seems to like his hand.

I'd probably have bet more on the flop $3-3.5 As played raise it up. NH

jim that's good, definitely not the terms i was thinking of the hand in - i had been more concerned about what cards would slow ME down. that makes this 3bet/get it in line a lot more logical.
