gg Phil Spector jury

Wow. Mistrial declared! Spector's jury was 10-2, but it's unclear if they were leaning towards guilty or innocent. I'd lay about 30:1 that they were leaning guilty, but two stubborn people decided to hang the jury. I can't imagine they'll spend the money to try him again, so the guy looks to be off scott free.

Of course, with a tarnished reputation.

This isn't really surprising given the recent results of celebrity trials, but it sure seemed like the dude shot that chick in the face.

By the way, Spector is probably my favorite person in the history of 20th century music and I wrote a big thread on him in EDF here.

Thoughts and opinions on how this trial ended? Anyone following it closely?

All I know is that they were split closer to down the middle before the judge gave the jury new instructions. It seems like they thought he didn't actually put a guy in her mouth and shoot her, but that he coerced her in some fashion.

Details plz. Do you mean how much information he did or didn't allow the jury to see? Do you mean his rulings on the defense motions?

A retrial is mandatory for murder charges in California.

PJ,
From what I understand, the judge f-ed up by not letting the jury consider a charge of manslaughter. It was murder or nothing. The holdouts on the jury said they couldn't prove he put the gun in her mouth, thus no murder. I suspect the prosecution will retry for a manslaughter conviction so they don't have to go thru this nonsense again.

how does a murder trial go five months. that seems to symbolize that the government is doing a really lousy job of presenting their case.
