Putters (different)
So I got a new putter this year that is the correct height, has a better grip and is heavier than my original Wilson putter. It feels good but solid contact is not automatic...I have to have a perfectly tempo'd stroke to hit the sweet spot.
But when I was putting around with my old putter I found that I make better contact (like 90% or more solid hits). Besides it being a $20 putter, do people cut these down or put on a new shaft and better grips? Where would I get this done and will it cost 5x the original cost of my $20 putter? p.s. as far as I know (which isn't much) the lie angle seems to be the same. |

Re: Putters (different)
Putting is SOOOO streaky...it's great to have multiple putters to switch between.

Take a look at all the good putters on tour, they've been using the same stick for 20 years. With putting it's almost never the equipment. Putting is mostly mental, if you're switching putters all the time you're just subconsciously telling yourself that you're not a good putter. Find a putter you like and hit well and stick with it. |

LOL. Arguably the best putter on the tour ATM (Phil) switches MID tourney! [/ QUOTE ] Phold has confidence problems. He always does [censored] like this to try and convince himself he's good or it's not his fault. And despite whatever bs his people might feed you he's not the best putter on tour. He has only changed putters once in recent memory that I can remember because he was putting poorly. Guess what? It didn't help him putt better and he switched back to his old putter after one day. [ QUOTE ] LMFAO, seriously, even top pros change putters a lot. [/ QUOTE ] The top putters don't. Really, the best putters rarely change their putters. Your post just proves two important things: - Your perception of the golf world doesn't match up with reality. - You are not a good putter. |

Re: Putters (different)
I used a Northwestern blade putter I bought for $14 for ten years. I was the best putter in our club. Someone convinced me to try one of the new face weighted putters. After struggling for three months adjusting to this thing I threw it off a bluff into lake Michigan. The very next hole I made a 45 foot birdie putt with the Northwestern. It was like witchcraft or something. I went on to make a 10-footer on the 18th hole to win our event by one stroke.
Use whatever feels comfortable. If you like your original putter and want a new one, then find a similar putter. Or having a new shaft put in the original putter should be cheap. |

I don't mind having the choice of two putters, but I need to get the original down to the right size and a new grip put on it. BTW, I too agree with the sentiment on changing putters. It seems weak to blame putting on the putter. Find one that works and stick with it. If you putt poorly, it's because you putt poorly, no other reason. |
