Default New Dell 3007 monitor: \"page fault in nonpaged area\"

Hi,

I just received my new 30" monitor from Dell and it's great blah blah blah.

However, there's a kinda hard to explain problem when I put it on 2560*1600 resolution. If anyone uses Party Poker they'll know that the first screen opens in the top left corner of the screen, and the second and subsequent screens open towards the right bottom corner. Well on the new monitor, the first screen opens fine, exactly where it should, but the second screen, while it clearly does open, opens off screen completely, which is obviously annoying. More than annoying, though, when I reset my computer in the hope that it would fix itself I got a blue screen and the error message that says "page_fault_in_nonpaged_area." Anyone know what this means?

FWIW, it runs fine with a lower res.

I'm running XP, and the graphics card is an ASUS EN8600GT.

Cheers in advance,
Mik

Problem solved, for the meanwhile anyway. The card I got doesn't support 2560*1600 resolution. The only reason I respond to my own thread is because the monitor FAQ is a bit misleading. The graphics card required has to be DVI dual link AND support 2560*1600 resolution. For people who are competant that's probably something you'd check for straight off the bat, but I think some clarification in the FAQ would be handy.

the product page at http://www.asus.com/products4.aspx?m...3=514&l4=0 says it has "Single dual-link DVI output"

did you try using the other plug? I interpret that sentence above to mean that just one of the DVI plugs has dual-link support.

also, the whole purpose of putting dual-link dvi features onto a graphics card is so that it can support resolutions greater than 2048x1536. there's literally no possible use for a dual-link feature if it can't support greater resolutions.

if your card does this - and it might, although i'm not convinced just yet - it has got to be probably the most stupidly designed graphics card currently available for retail purchase.

Don't know if it makes any difference, but the card I bought is this one: http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1...mp;modelmenu=2

I hope you're wrong though. What I'm going off is on the back of the box there's a table titled Minimum Refresh Rate (Hz) Table (I have no idea what that means, btw) and the maximum resolution listed is 2048*1536. So I'm praying this is the problem because the only thing I hate more than computers is recurring blue death screens, which I am getting when I try to get max res, and I've spent all day trying to get this muthalicka working. BTW, if you look at the website for both of those graphics cards linked to it lists "CRT max resolution" as 2048*1536. So I dunno, I'll report back when I put in a new card if it's of interest.

As an aside, I'm no diehard or anything (I don't even know who it is in your avatar), but a quick 'carn the Hawks!' is probably in order. I adopted them as my token AFL team at the start of the year after moving down here. Tomorrow's my first game, so hopefully they can put in a good showing!

Michaelson, you are inccorrect, that is the max resolution for the card in VGA mode, not DVI mode.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121076

both ports are dual-link DVI and they both should work. try installing the latest graphic drivers from nvidia.com and the dell drivers that came with the monitor. I actually just bought this monitor and received it yesterday, and it works like a dream with my 8500GT. gl.

This makes me cry. I installed all the new drivers yesterday, but no dice. Does anyone have any idea what this might be if it's not the graphics card?
