Who cares about 3$

I was playing 20/40 at borgata this past weekend (half hour charge of 7$) When 4 people were walking when they came to collect time. Immediately 3 players started complaining that they should receive half time for playing 6 handed. The floor had to be called and the dispute lasted a good 5 minutes. I tried to remind people of the hands we were missing and how moot 3 dollars is. It didn't matter.

Yes this is just a rant but c'mon that's so annoying.

Nits! They're playing almost 2x as many hands now for the same price and screwing themselves out of hands for 1/6th of the entire time.

6 dollars/hr X 6 people X 5 hour session = 180$ plus avg of 1$ tip per pot of 30 hands = 210$.

Depends how nitty you are, but this makes some people mad. I personally dont give 2 schits about 3 bucks playing those stakes, but... Playing with a smaller rake is always better, if they offer it, make sure u get it-end of story.

The fact that you're commenting on "how moot $3 is" makes this entire thread worthless. The rake cuts into your winrate at all levels, and $7 a half at a game where big bet = $40 is nothing to sneeze at. If lower rake is available, take it. There's a reason the house never loses.

Fair enough but wasting four or five hands debating this also cuts into my winrate.

From experience there they'll cut rake if the game is truly 6 handed or less - in this case its just people sitting out, from the house's perspective it is still a full game because they are taking their 70 bucks.

Do you think these ninnies understand that concept? You are dealing with a table of MBA's from Harvard Business School in limit holdem at the Borgata.

I care about $3, but then again, I also know whether the card rooms that I play at collect lower rake/time when the game is short. Personally, I will not play at the same rake levels for a SH game (e.g. Bay 101 has reduced rake for <=6 players), but am happy to pay the same time charge for a SH game. I have yet to see a casino to cut time charges for SH games...when I played at Wynn, I paid 1/2 the time charges, but this was during a phase where they were trying to generate stable mid-limit action.

Being charged $14/hr at a 20/40 game when there are 5 players at the table is a "steal" compared to being charged $14/hr when there are 10 players at the table. Assuming that one sees 40 hands/hour when the game is 5 handed (probably even more if there is a shuffling machine), the table pays $70 / 40 hands = $1.75 / hand. This is cheaper than online where $3/hand rake is taken for ~70-80% of hands.

I don't think it's worth the aggravation to put up time pots if more than like two people are walking. It pretty much devolves into a total nightmare where your likelihood of being screwed is rather high with people arguing it should be half or whatever. Usually if you ask the floor in this scenario they will let the people at the table pay half and collect the full amount from the walkers - this is just easier. Either way, I don't like putting up a time pot if many are walking.
