HU: I sit down, they sit out NLCASH
On FTP, *VERY* often when I sit down at a HU table, the other person immediately sits out. I don't play that often, so unless he has done extensive data mining, he should not know anything about my skills, good or bad.
Looks like a lot of people sit at several HU tables, just taking up space rather than actually playing. I have been trying to figure out why, since there must be a reason. Are they targeting very specific opponents or what ? Can anyone clarify ? MHunt |

Re: HU: I sit down, they sit out
I only sit out against people with less than 40bbs if i'm not in the mood for that type of game.
I also need to leave my ego at the door and stop playing guys who are if anything at the same level as me or better. |

Perhaps they have played with you before and thought you were so good that they would rather wait for softer competition.

Re: HU: I sit down, they sit out NLCASH
there are some regs at ftp who refuse to play me. it's usually fine with me, i'm rather play donks who have no idea than regs who are decent.
sometimes it pisses me off though because i get tired of being in extremely +ev situations against idiots, esp shortstackers who think they're good at shortstacking and then I'm actually waaay better than them. |

Re: HU: I sit down, they sit out NLCASH
Thank you for your replies.
Let me just clarify a couple of things. I was not "fishing for compliments", like "you must be so good they don't want to play with you". Also, I realize game selection is a big part of many peoples strategy (including my own). This is why I mentioned that I haven't really played that much HU at FTP, so I wouldn't expect most people to have much stats on me. Some may, but we're talking a very large percentage of players who sit at the table, and then sit out when I join. Let's just say maybe 50% or more. I mostly buy in full, but not always. If they don't have a full buyin, I probably tend to buy in for a little more than they have. Doesn't seem to me that my buy in pattern would be that unusual. So, I am personally left with the theory that a lot of people only want to play a very select list of people, basically they must be using "friends" lists, and if you're not on the list, they don't play you. This would probably be done using data mining, and since this "sitting out" happens so frequently, it would look like data mining followed by *very* selective game selection would be a growing trend. This since I didn't use to have problems getting people to play with me. Anyway, I was just curious about you opinions. Thanks again for your replies, MHunt |
