Good spot to go for a river checkraise to extract max value?
Poker Stars - No Limit Hold'em Cash Game - $1/$2 Blinds - 5 Players - (LegoPoker Hand History Converter)
SuperHero (SB): $400.30 BB: $192.00 UTG: $219.05 CO: $259.10 BTN: $90.25 Reads: readless Preflop: SuperHero is dealt A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (5 Players) UTG raises to $4.00, 2 folds, SuperHero calls $3.00, BB calls $2.00 Flop: ($12) J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (3 Players) SuperHero bets $12.00, BB folds, UTG calls $12.00 Turn: ($36) A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 Players) SuperHero bets $34.00, UTG calls $34.00 River: ($104) 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 Players) SuperHero bets all-in for $350.30 That is how i actually played the hand but i was thinking: 1) is a unknown readless who has just come to the table really going to call a bet/bet/shove line with just a J here? 2) If i check, he may decide to make a thin value bet with KJ or something 3) if he has Ax,im sure even an unknown is value betting trips on the river, and probably wont fold to a shove 4) it gives him a chance to bet his busted flush/gutshot draws thoughts? |

I don't mind a CR in this spot. Lets diamonds have a shot at bluffing, and AK/AQ will probably valuebet.
Not a fan of the huge overbet on the river. |

he most likely has a weak hand, i like the shove. ive pulled this play off sometimes and seen some ridiculous calls. also, i dont think a FD bets here.

Re: Good spot to go for a river checkraise to extract max value?
i like your thinking, but i think betting > checking here. i dont get fancy against unkowns, he'll likely bet trips here i guess, but he's more likely to call. Much more likely to call w/ a J then to bet it. The missed draws is an good reason to check, but you have shown alot of strength, villain might be a little gun shy after that.

Either one is probably fine. W/ a read I C/R this all day...but players are just so bad at this level and don't ever fold Ax here. Another vote for betting.

Not a fan of the huge overbet on the river. [/ QUOTE ] Why not? i) its probably safe to assume that an unknown isn't going to shove over a small river bet with his busted flush draw ii) if he has an ace hes probably going to call a shove anyway just coz he wants to get to showdown iii) betting smaller allows him to JUST call with an ace fearing a bigger ace [ QUOTE ] he most likely has a weak hand, i like the shove. [/ QUOTE ] if you thinkk he has a weak hand why would you like the shove since its less likely he'll call the shove with a weak hand. |

I think open shoving MIGHT fold out some hands that would have otherwise called/shoved.

It's read dependand IMO, if the guy is likely to bluf with diamonds check it. Don't like the shove though, it screams fullhouse.

Re: Good spot to go for a river checkraise to extract max value?
Perfect spot to check since most of the hands he's calling a river bet with will bet when checked to (and may feel obligated to call a shove on 'pot odds' even though its dead obvious they're beat), and then some more on top of that like busted FDs or good jacks.
