not thinking enough about small stacks?

Thoughts? |

Re: not thinking enough about small stacks?
It's certainly possible to not pay enough attention to stack sizes and do something dumb, but for a 25 BB stack I don't have a problem getting it in with TP2K.

Re: not thinking enough about small stacks?
It doesn't matter if you are beat here. You only find out if you are beat once it is too late and there's nothing you can do about it.
Things that you could have done if the hand would have gone differently: <ul type="square">[*] Had he been the raiser pre-flop you would have had to fold pre-flop[*] Had you missed this flop a cbet would have been wrong [*] Had he donked with a proper sized bet you would have had to fold[/list] |

Re: not thinking enough about small stacks?
I think it was played perfectly against a shortstacker. You got his money in with a strong made hand, can't ask for much more. Basically if I hit the flop I'm putting them all in no matter what. And if they donk shove, a majority of the time it's two overs so I'm calling with any pocket pair or AK/AQ. The good ones usually shove any pocket pair and big ace preflop as their strategy. Occasionally they'll slow play a monster as well though. But most shortstackers aren't playing it as a strategy, they're playing it because they're broke morons. Against good shortstackers who actually have a clue you need to be a bit more careful.

Re: not thinking enough about small stacks?
This discussion opens my eyes a little bit, but I think I'm already going in the right direction.
I don't necessarily want to play for (mini-micro-)stacks here, so I felt like my normal c-bet-raise-thing might be over the line, since it's basically committing him to the pot (without the benefit of super-dramatic all-in fold equity). I think I might want to practice pot control here, whether I'm ahead or behind. My point was really that I was getting him all-in without even realizing it, and I wasn't 100% sure I wanted to do that. But everyone else is pretty much dead-on with what I was thinking: I love playing shortstack donks because I'm always pleasantly surprised to find that they're pushing crap. I even love it when they hit their monsters, because I'm paying them 1:1 to hit crazy 10:1 shots. So I get all that. Thanks. He flipped over K9o for two pair, and I'm no good. But the next 20 short-stack donks will turn over A4o, K3o, QTo, 98s, and a medley of worthless pocket pairs, so I'm pretty sure I'm good with my call. |
