Why do so many people limp AQ/AK

I can't tell you how many times i limp AQ/KQ in a .10/.25 NL full ring game, and flop top pair, make modest bets the whole way to protect my hand, and at the showdown they reveal they limped AK and just called the whole way. Seems profitable when I lose to it like that, but when i limp with them myself I find that anyone that is going to play with me in an unraised pot always has me beat, or they fold and i win about forty cents.

Thats because you have to limp with AA and KK sometimes too for the balance. This way people will give more respects to your limps.

Seems grossly unprofitable, but when I limp with them myself I find that anyone that is going to play with me in an unraised pot always has me beat, nevermind that that is impossible, or they fold because they know I am an incredible nit and I win about forty cents.
